What is professional development?

Dear notice provider

Education Gazette has introduced a new professional development listing system.

Due to a Ministry of Education request to place more content online and less in print, professional development notices will now appear in print listing only the name of the course provider and the course title.

However, the print listings will now be arranged by sector (early childhood, primary/intermediate, secondary) and by region, making it much easier for teachers to see the courses of interest to them in their area. For further information they can contact the course provider or consult the Education Gazette website.

In addition, we have greatly enhanced the searchability of notices online. With the previous system, readers often had to scroll through long listings of many courses to find the one course they were looking for.

From today, September 29, course providers will submit individual course listings (rather than many courses in a single notice listing) through our website. Each course listing will be categorized (and searchable) by audience (early childhood, primary/intermediate, secondary), region and topic as well as date and keyword.

We have tried to reduce the need to enter the same course listing more than once by allowing listings to have more than one region and date.

After a course listing is submitted, it will be checked by Education Gazette staff who will then approve it to appear online.

Readers will be able to use the new professional development listing system from Monday October 5.

Course providers should note the Notice numbers of their course listings (the numbers are generated automatically by our database and are displayed after the successful submission of each new notice).

Please do not hesitate to suggest new topics or other additions to this system. For example, we may need to offer more Auckland regions (Auckland North, Auckland West etc).

We intend to provide readers with a notice alert service that will automatically email them notices that are of interest to them.
